When it comes to running your business you’ve got so many things to think about.
One aspect of most businesses that is often at the bottom of the ‘to do’ list is their content strategy. We all know we need it, but do we really give it the attention it deserves?
Let’s start with…
What is Content Strategy?
Content strategy encompasses your communication goals – who you want to reach and why – and all aspects of managing your communication process.
Your social media posts, website, blog posts, emails, newsletters, business cards, any touchpoint with a client — these are all tools and opportunities that are showcasing who you are and what your business has to offer.
Content Creation is Key
Your content creation is all based on your content strategy. Creating compelling and meaningful content that resonates with your audience all starts with a cohesive content strategy. Also, check out why you may want to hire a content creator.
What are the key factors of a successful content strategy?
1. Find your brand voice.
What is your brand “voice”? It’s identifying what your brand personality is. Sounds cheesy, but this step is one you should not skip. Identify the identity of one person you’re talking to and always focus on that one person. How old is this person, are they male or female, what are their interests, what’s their favorite cocktail?
If you’re trying to serve too many audiences, you’ll water down your voice. Ultimately, the clients who are supposed to reach you will find you because you’re confident and putting out a consistent message when you speak to one person. You’re trying to evoke a feeling through your brand messaging.
2. Plan your content strategy.
Plan plan plan. Think of your strategy plan like going to the grocery store. When you have a list, you know precisely what you need. You spend less time wandering around looking at things you don’t need. Ultimately, you likely save money by sticking to your list.
The same holds true with your content strategy. Plan your content, and you’ll feel more in control. A consistent and cohesive content strategy is vital to the success of your business.
3. Execute your content strategy.
Now it’s time to make the strategy happen. Schedule time to write your social media content. Send your email newsletter on a regular schedule. Consistent messages are key. If you post on Instagram one day and then not again for two weeks and frantically toss up a post, you’re not really executing appropriately. Your audience will be confused and unsure of your message.
It’s best to spend scheduled time implementing your content strategy and creating content that resonates with your audience.
Create Connections
And, if you’re not seeing the results you want from your content? Mix it up.
Try a new strategy such as varying your email subject lines. MatchPoint Consultants has some great tips in this post, or try some new hashtags in your Instagram posts.
